Butcher Modi Go Back - You Are Not Welcome here in UK !

Join the Protest Against Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Visit !

12 November at 12 Noon Outside Downing Street

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi of BJP came to power in the 2014 general elections with promises of development and ‘Ache Din’ (good days). He rode to power on corporate money. It is estimated that his campaign spent more than £500 million raised largely from the corporate world. On taking office Modi has systematically gone about fulfilling the wishes of his funders. He has proved himself to be a pro-corporate, pro-upper-caste and Hindu supremacist. India’s current ruling party BJP is part of a hardcore organisation called Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), a Hindu supremacist and fascist paramilitary organisation that takes pride in equating themselves to the fascist Nazis. Narendra Modi is a life member of the RSS. His political career and ideology is shaped by his commitment to the RSS.

The same Narendra Modi, who was previously banned from entering the UK due to his involvement (when he was the Chief Minister of Gujarat state) in the massacres of over 2000 Muslims including women and children and displacement of more than 20,000 people in Gujarat in 2002, will be visiting the UK on the 12th of November. Let’s all demand the fascist Modi to go back.

Since Modi became the Prime Minister of the Federal Government, he has given free rein to a cohort of Hindu fundamentalist organisations such as RSS, Bhajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishat. Ever since, in the name of ‘protecting Hinduism’, people from minority religions and Dalits have been systematically targeted and attacked. Several Churches became targets of arson by Hindu mobs. In Muzaffarnagar in the state of Uttar Pradesh, more than 40 Muslims were killed in an organised attack by Hindu fundamentalist gangs and 40,000 people were displaced from their homes. Beef, which is a cheap source of protein for the poor, is banned in several states. Using this ban as an excuse, on 28th September 2015 in Dadri,Uttar Pradesh state, Hindu vigilante mobs attacked and putally lynched to death the head of a Muslim family over false rumours that his family had eaten beef for dinner. A Hindu mob in the state of Himachal Pradesh state beat a Muslim man to death and injured four others, accusing them of smuggling cows to be slaughtered for beef. A toddler and a nine-month old of a Dalit (lower-caste) family died after their home in Faridabad town of Haryana state was set on fire by upper-caste Hindus.

Those holding opposing political and cultural views have been systematically eliminated. Noted writer MM Kalburgi from Karnataka state and rationalist Govind Pansare from Maharashtra were shot dead by ‘unidentified’ gunmen in August and Fepuary respectively this year. All the above events resulted in several protests. As a part of these protests, more than three dozen prominent writers and artists retuned the prestigious ‘Sahitya Academy Awards’ back to the academy protesting the killings and growing intolerance towards minority religions and political dissent.

Since coming to power Modi has concentrated on foreign visits seeking out CEOs, signing hundreds of secretive MoUs with the industrialists, allowing multinational corporations to loot the natural resources, cheap labour and local finances. He has introduced several bills to facilitate land acquisitions, and exploitation of natural resources and cheap labour to make life easier for the multinational corporations. The proposed changes represent the most putal face of neoliberalism; they will effectively take away the rights of 80% of India’s workers, displace hundreds of thousands of peasants from their lands and allow companies pollute the rivers and destroy forest cover.

150 million workers across sectors went on a one-day strike on September 2, to protest against Modi’s new labour policy making it one of the biggest strikes in India’s recent history. Millions of peasants and Adivasis (indigenous people) of Chhattisgarh, Orissa, Jharkhand and Bihar, who are resisting the land grab by the corporations, face severe repression by the central and state governments. The government launched ‘Operation Green Hunt’ a full scale military operation against its own people in the mineral rich regions of Central and Eastern India.

Under Modi’s watch regressive Hindu fundamentalism has unleashed violence against Indian women on a scale unknown in India. There is a ‘rape pandemic’ that is cheered on by the numerous Hindu organisations. Modi has remained silent on these issues and refused to condemn them, let alone rein them in.

Extra judicial killings, looting and burning of villages and standing crops, rapes, by the armed forces became a routine. Indian jails are overcrowded with hundreds of thousands of political prisoners - poor peasants and workers. Why are Cameron & Co cosying-up to this murderer?

· Demand an end to attacks on minorities such as Muslims and Christians and Dalits

· Demand an end to attacks on intellectuals, writers and artists

· Demand an end to the Indian government’s war on people - ‘Operation Green Hunt’

· Demand to release hundreds of thousands of political prisoners languishing in the Indian jails.
